As I was deciding what to write for the first blog post for Tweetbase, I decided to share the market research we did at Tweetbase. I tried all Twitter Bookmarks managers out there and picked the best ones. I am skipping other apps that haven't been updated for over a year or felt buggy. Let's see what the best products offer.

I’ve tried to provide accurate information below, but if you notice any issues, please let me know.

Deep Dive

I delve deeper into products that offer built-in Twitter Bookmarks sync because these products are more serious about serving the same target users that Tweetbase serves.

Tweetsmash

Built by two indie hacker Ramya and Kumar, Tweetsmash is by far the best Twitter Bookmark manager.

Good:

Different Algorithm for reading Twitter Bookmarks

Thread Reader: Makes reading Twitter threads easy.

Nice Look: Easy and fun to use.

  • Email digest: great for those who want to go through Twitter bookmarks on the weekends
  • Cheap: just 5$ a month!
  • Sync to Notion: You can link it with Notion for extra organization and back up.

Bad:

  1. Can't Sync All: I have a couple thousand Twitter Bookmarks but it only synced 352 bookmarks. (tested on June 16th, 2023)
  1. No Metrics: Can’t see engagement metrics such as likes count
  1. Buggy: Saw this error multiple times while using the app
  1. Expensive to Export: Costs a lot to move your data out ($49 one-time tho)

Dewey

Goods:

Fully featured: Dewey lets you quote-tweet your bookmark, and take notes on tweets. It also lets you organize tweets using tags and folders. (AI tagging in beta)

Full Twitter Bookmarks sync: Dewey has a chrome extension that lets you sync all of your Twitter Bookmarks (which goes beyondTwitter API’s 800 bookmarks limit)

Turn into image: you can easily turn a tweet into an image for marketing.

Bad:

  1. Not the best looking UI

Readwise Reader

Readwise Reader brings together bookmarks from different platforms.

Good:

  1. Multi-use Reader: Handles bookmarks from all over, not just Twitter.
  1. A great mobile app

Bad:

  1. No Auto Twitter Bookmarks Sync. maybe there is one. I couldn’t find how.
  1. Not the best UI for reading tweets.

Tweetbase

Good:

Beautiful UI: we value a great design and try to delight users by building simple and easy interface at Tweetbase

Fast: Tweetbase is by far the snappiest app out there. It’s bc we store tweets on your machine and there is no need for API calls. So every interaction feels instant.

Archive feature

Even if the original author deletes the tweet, you can still see it on Tweetbase.

Bad:

  1. Lacks features: no thread reader, no annotation, or posting tweets yet.
  1. No integration with Notion: makes it hard to back up your tweets
  1. too may AI tags: the AI tags are good but too may tags are generated. (963 tags for 193 tweets!)

Summary

Here is my verdict on each product.

  • Tweetsmash: get it if you need email digests.
  • Getdewey: get it if you want to annotate tweets
  • Readwise Reader: get it if you read a lot from many sources beside Twitter
  • Tweetbase: get it if you need a simple app for reading and organizing tweets
  • Mem: get it tif you want an all in one workspace that also makes it easy to save tweets to it
  • Mymind: get it if you value great design and collect lots of images

Special Mentions

  1. An Oxford grad, Ash, is building Frontdoor, an AI-powered personal librarian for the internet. The landing looks super sleek but the app is an invite only. I will update the post as soon as I get my hands on it (June 17th, 2023)
  1. Twemex, which was recently acquired by Tweethunter will also integrate bookmark search soon.
  1. SaveToNotion: if you want to keep everything on Notion, it’s a good option loved my thousands of followers on Twitter.

Tried but didn’t mention

  1. tweepsbook. couldn’t sync my bookmarks
  1. heyslideit: couldnt login
  1. markfolder: not a fan of the UI and the extension hasn’t been updated for a year.
  1. saveToBookmarks: got a server err when trying to login (June 16th, 2023)
  1. birdFeeder: couldn’t login
